Being Proactive on LinkedIn in Your Job Search Can Open Doors
Greg Muth, Experienced Marketing & Product Management Professional
I wanted to share my success with LinkedIn helping me in my job search. A few weeks back I was let go from my company in a restructuring (I am a software product manager with 6 years of experience). Understanding the capabilities of LinkedIn, naturally I began working my connections for search advice, recommendations for people I should talk to, and assistance when they or any of their connections might be able to help me get my name in front of the right people at companies to which I applied.
The response has been so encouraging! Those to whom I have been introduced have all been so helpful with their time and insights into their companies. One opportunity led me to a fellow MBA classmate I hadn’t been in touch with since we graduated a few years ago.
Although I can not be 100% certain, I am quite sure that having these kind people passing along my name and resume to the right people at their companies got me into the door for an interview on 2 separate occasions.
We all know networking is what gets the job done when competing for attention with literally hundreds of other job applicants. That’s just the business world we live in. I’m just happy that LinkedIn definitely makes that process work and gives me an edge.
