As we launch into a new season I’d like to take a minute and reflect on the year so far. First, I am incredibly grateful. I have met, gotten to know and worked with so many new people in the last year, and, I have taken something away from everyone, yes, that means each of you reading this note. I have listened to your questions, heard your comments on sales, marketing, networking, re-inventing, recruiting, to name just a few. I have gleaned patterns, learned and grown well beyond my comfort zone.
We control only our small part of the world— not the upcoming election, the debt crisis or global warming. We do, however, control how we go about our days, how we engage with those around us and how we create and move opportunities forward. If we look closely, rather than view the glass half empty, we will see good things happening.
My 2012 motto has been Keep Calm and Carry On. I saw it as I landed in London earlier this year and considering the project I had just finished (WOW — Baltimore) it was just the message I needed. It’s the center of my desktop, each day I am reminded to take one step forward, as calmly as I can.
I have navigated this ever-changing economy and business environment by (hopefully) seeing gaps and filling them, sharing what I have learned along the way. I re-invent to stay current not to follow the next shiny object or have something new to say. What have I learned? Through all the years it’s constant— it always comes down to people.
The right people. Everyday, in one way or another, we are all looking to meet, recruit, engage with the right people. LinkedIn, coaching, and now Predictive Index are the tools to get us to the right place with the right people. It works, mostly because tools give us a path and a way to measure, compare and move further along the path. I like that.
We can’t do whatever we do everyday, alone. We need to connect insight and opportunites among our network, colleagues, mentors, advisors, friends, and family. This is what drives new ideas, business opportunities, great relationships and revenue.
Once again, thank you for each and every referral, introduction and suggestion, I am humbled by your generosity. And since there is opportunity everywhere, let’s carry on!
All the Best,
Colleen
