I hosted a LinkedIn Lunch and Learn the other day where the audience was filled with a wide range of professionals who understand and use LinkedIn for business development.
Perhaps most interesting though was that there were college students, young professionals and rebooters [my friend Phil Burgess has coined that term for those individuals that have re-invented them post-retirement]. In other words, there were people from 19 to 73 learning about LinkedIn, learning how to build their profile and integrate LinkedIn into their sales and business strategy.
The students said they wanted to learn about LinkedIn, they are well versed on Facebook and Twitter but LinkedIn doesn’t really resonate with them yet but they know it will. I commend their parents for including them and keying them into what they need to know.
In fact, as sophomore and juniors in college, it’s not too early. They should be preparing now for the internships sprinkled throughout their college years.
They can check out LinkedIn’s Student portal, LinkedIn Student Portal, and find the internships and potential companies they potentially want to work for. Clearly LinkedIn has identified a key market niche [keep checking in, I will be talking about Project Get Hired soon, designed for the 21-27 year-old audience.]
And, my friend and client, a former CEO, an active business professional and serial entrepreneur who just so happens to be on the other side of 70, redefines retirement. His curiosity and intentional pursuit of social media is refreshing…..none of the usual “I am too old to learn” nonsense.
I left the Lunch & Learn with an even greater understanding of a favorite quote by Alvin Toffler, a futurist:
The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn
So, today, take 5 minutes and join, sign in and learn how LinkedIn is changing how people are doing business.
