In Tuesday’s post, we discussed ways that college students can really impress with their LinkedIn profiles. We also discussed how to connect with alumni from your school.
This is a hot topic and one that we’ve covered before. Check out the tutorial below for an updated version of Erin’s post from May 2016 on how to utilize LinkedIn’s alumni page features.
First, click in the search bar at the top of your homepage. Then, enter in the name of your college or university.
Click the name of your school when it appears in your search results.
Once you’ve been taken to your school’s page, click the “See Alumni” button.
Once you’re on the Find Alumni page, you’ll see an option for searching by “Attended” or “Graduated.”
You can also use the search bar to look up alumni by title, keyword or company
You may also see a button to “Change university” if you have attended or are affiliated with more than one school.

To connect with alumni in a particular geographic area or company, select the “Where they live” or “Where the work” columns.

To connect with alumni in a particular field, you can select from the “What they do” column.

For example, if I wanted to view all alumni from Washington College who work in Media and Communications, I would click the green bar above the “Media and Communications” title.
I’m then taken to a page showing all alumni who work in Media and Communications.

*Remember, if you see someone on this list that you want to connect with, visit their individual profile so you can personalize your connection request!
You do this by clicking on their name.
Click Connect.
When the dialogue box appears, select “Add a note.”
Type in your personalized message into this box.
