While there has been talk that LinkedIn may do away with or drastically change LinkedIn Groups, it looks like they were actually rethinking how to re-integrate Groups into your primary LinkedIn applications and adding some new features to spark new life into Groups.
On February 15th, LinkedIn will no longer support a standalone iOS app for Groups – none of your existing group memberships and contributions will be affected by this change. So, what’s changing?
Discover and access Groups more easily. You’ll be able to access your Groups right from the homepage, and you’ll see the latest content from your Groups in notifications and the homepage feed.
This is a huge improvement. I could never figure out why LinkedIn basically hid Groups in the grid icon in the top right corner of your LinkedIn navigation bar.
Be a part of richer conversations. You’ll be able to post videos into your groups, @mention the members you want to weigh in, and keep the conversation going by replying to comments.
This provides an opportunity to engage more interactively in your Groups and encourage your Group members to take a more active role in your community.
You’ll start to see these changes in the upcoming weeks and months. And, remember, LinkedIn always rolls out their changes randomly over time.
